Daily Tarot Pull - THE HANGED MAN - July 31, 2024

This is one of the few most misunderstood cards in the tarot. When we hear the words "The hanged man" we often jump to associate it with an execution. Spiritually, however, it has a very different meaning. Upon further inspection of the card, one will notice that he is hung from the tree by one foot, and in a rather relaxed pose. The light shining from around his head shows enlightenment, as one might gain from looking at the world from a different perspective. You'd see things differently upside down, no?
There is much mythology around this card, one of the most known ones is the story of when Odin hanged himself in Yggdrasil, the world tree, for nine days and nine nights in order to gain knowledge and be able to read the runes. Much like you may be learning inner guidance and thought from the tarot, so did Odin learn this.
Many other cultures speak of hanging for the purpose of enlightenment as well. Therefore, this card is much more positive than one initially judges upon first glance. Often in our lives, if things aren't working exactly the way we want (or, sometimes even if they are!) we need to take a pause and look at things from a new perspective. Sometimes letting go of our ego and desire to control and really seeing things for how they are can be the best guiding light we have.
